Great tune Charles! One of the bands I work with does it. Never sat down and worked out tab for it instrumentally, but did download the chord changes....Cowpie maybe... and learned the melody from that. Good Luck! |

I went to Washington Music Store in Wheaton today and asked a friend of mine who works there about the chord prior to the phrase, "Johnny come lately", (you know the hook) and it's E minor. I am an ear player and have such a limited knowledge of music; anyway, I thought the song was in E because I found the intro at the seventh fret but it's really in G. He grabbed a guitar off the rack, thought about it for a minute and started playing it. Now all I have to do is find "that" E minor on my E9 neck and I can continue to muddle through. I actually went and got the CD by the Eagles, love it. I think that it can be a monster instrumental on the psg. |

Of course you can play it any key you choose. The Eagles did it in the key of E. It modulates to G after the bridge for a verse and chorus then back to E for the outro. A few twists and turns throughout the song.
The chords as played on the Hotel California album are available at www.roughtstock.com/cowpie if you are interested. I hope you get it worked out however you decide to play it. I'm certain it will sound great as an instrumental. [This message was edited by Jerry Overstreet on 04 May 2006 at 09:31 PM.] |

There are many E minors to be found on the E9th neck.
The most common are at 3rd fret with A pedal, 8th fret with D lever, 10th fret with B&C pedals, also 10th fret A&B pedals strings 5,6,7&8 actualy Em7th and then the 12th fret lowering the 6th string 1/2 step.
I use all these positions when doing
"Ghost Riders in the Sky."

Thanks guys. Is this a great forum or what? I'll continue to work on this song, 'course I don't play outside my home but I have a blast when I can find a good lick. I'll bet someday, someone will really consider putting this out as an instrumental on the psg, there are a lot of different ways to go with it. |
