Anyone have any suggestions for simulating a wolf whistle on a pedal steel?

I use the first string starting about 3/4 of the way up. Then slide up and back while using the volume pedal to swell the sound. On the back slide I start with a little forward motion first.

Hard to describe I guess but it does get the crowds attention when used in the right place and sparingly.

Jim's post describes what I do. It's a "feel thing", not really easy to tab, since it involves the volume pedal.

Here's an example of me doing it in a cover of Gretchen Wilson's Redneck Woman.

The Wolf Whistle is not in the original recording, and my band tries to stay true to the recordings, so I only did it at practices, not shows.

Then one day our singer said to me, "How come you never do the Steel Whistle live, I like it".

Ever since, I haven't missed doing it in "Redneck Woman".

It's interesting to note that there is a Wolf Whistle on Gretchen's new CD. It's in the song California Girls (not the Beach Boys song of the same name), right after the line "there ain't nothing wrong with plastic surgery...".

That's the way I would go too.

I've never done it on steel but use it on slide 6 string all the time.

Steve Miller's "The Joker" is a common find in my repetoire. It's done in exactly that way with a steel slide. No reason it should be any different on pedal steel.

Of course you can do it your way if you find mine too simple.
