Lace Dobro Sensor

Does anyone have one of these? Is there some way of mounting the cord and jack? How do you like the sound? Is it closer to the real thing than a SuperBro? My stage setup is already complicated enough so I don't want to have to use another pre-amp set-up and deal with the feedback issue. I play in an electric band so I need pretty good volume. Any comments appreciated.

I know this topic has been discussed at length and I have read the files but there is not much from anyone who has one of the newer ones, I think its been redone. I am really wondering if I would be ahead to just get a six string lap-steel with the Dobro lenght scale and play it through the SuperBro. From what I can gather no one is satisfied with the amplified sound without at least a pre-amp and graphic. Playing through the P.A. isn't an option for me. Any comment appreciated.

I have not tried the Lace sensor, but have been looking at it.

Could mount it permanently by using an endpin jack. (cut off the female 1/4). Run the wire down one of the screenholes. Some work with a file on the screen should make it fit. If something goes wrong you can replace the screen.

I have a Fishman dobro sensor permanently mounted now. I takes some work with a 4 band eq with a phase switch and a darn good preamp. The sound is very good The guitar will still feedback at higher volumes. The resonator is a perfect feedback machine. A magnetic pickup under the strings makes sense.

Here is a dumb question. Has anyone tried a reso with a magnetic pickup and a Matchbro?

I am also trying to solve a stage setup problem. Going back and forth from steel to reso.

Thanks Ron, that is exactly the problem, Pre-
Amp, EQ, seperate amp, line to P.A. its just too much, my band plays mostly casuals and we have no "crew" so I've got to have something that I can plug into my Webb with the Emmons and just play. Let me know what you come up with, I haven't decided what to get yet,

I've also been wondering about using the the magnetic pickup/superbro (matchbro) set-up.

The main problem I have with lap steel thru the superbro is that the lap steel does not behave like a dobro. To much sustain, too smooth a sound, significantly less dynamic response. I figured using the magnetic on the dobro thru the simulator would give the best of all worlds, when just miking the dobro is not an option.

I'd also love to hear from anyone who's tied this.

Ron,Byron,
I use a magnetic pickup on my Dobro. It's a Kent Armstrong PU Mini Humbucker. This (floating) pickup was made for one of my Archtop guitars i build so the hight of the PU is very low(8 mm) so it fits well under the strings. I have placed the PU between the neck and coneplate. It will gives you the warmest sound with less feedback. The only thing you need is good preamp, i use a 19"Trace Elliot preamp the same amp as in the TA100R , a Peavey Addverb II and a Peavey DPC 750 with a Dynacord 12"speaker and a high tone speaker.
