Single Note E9 lick

I find this very useful in many songs. The trick is to hold the bar at the fifth fret and pick the 6th string.

Looks like someone has stolen my lick...I use this in the "One Note Samba". All my friends know its me when they hear this lick. You can also play this on the C6 neck at the 4th fret 4th string. The phrasing is real tricky, but...practice...practice...practice and more practice...

Man. I've spent about 6 hours trying to learn that lick and just can't get it. Maybe I'm using the wrong finger. Am I using the wrong bar? Do I have to be in the same room as the guitar??? Please help!!!! This has me so stressed out. Maybe I should just sell all my stuff and learn how to play the triangle. But then, do you hold it in the left or right hand. Where's my Prozac?

Some of the older tab used to indicate which finger or thumb to use - perhaps you could add this?

Also, do you block this lick with your palm, or your pick?

I don't think it's blocked with the palm or picks. I'm finally starting to get the lick. The best way to block it that I have found, is when my head falls down on the strings from exaustion. Now head blocking takes a lot of practice. You don't want it to slam down too hard. If you do, your head might bounce back up causing sounds you don't necessarily want. Although, if you practice bouncing your forehead off the strings, you can get a sound that is close to the "Speedy West slamming the bar on the strings" sound.

Oh no guys. I just heard this lick in a Marilyn Manson song my son was playing. And check this out, IT WAS PLAYED ON A REGULAR GUITAR. I even think I heard the Bass Player play this lick. Now that guitar players have copied this lick from us, I think our future is looking pretty bleak.

By the way, does anyone know if you play this lick on the bagpipes?
