i am a new player so please bare with me. i am learning on a U 12 carter. my question is when you have 4 notes to be played on the same fret at the same time what do you do strum the four strings or pic three and then one or two and two or what. how do you do this with just three picks thanks sid.

If they're adjacent, pick the top two with your fingers and strum the bottom two with your thumb. Doing that, you're obviously not limited to four strings. If they're separated by other strings, strum and pick with your fingers and/or thumb in combinations as needed to sound the strings you want. Or, as Don Curtis told me, you can always try four picks.

Some players use three finger picks and a thumb pick. Great for playing C6th for some grips like strings 2, 4, 5 & 7 and 3, 5, 6 & 8 as well as other combos.
