I am curious about the "Help" files.
Why are they not in the initial download?
I went to Tabledit site and downloaded the help files only to find later that my Winzip software would not recognize .rtf format.
I then noticed there is a Tutorial. Maybe I should have downloaded that? What format is it in?

Roy, ".rtf" files are in Real Text Format. I believe any word processor can open them. They are not zipped. You probably just need to double click them and and your word processor will open them.

Open your word processor and do File-Open. Then navigate to where the file is and open it. All word processors that I know of will open RTF files.

Roy,
I assume you're using Win 95 or 98 or ME

From the Start Button, click on Programs, then Accessories, then WordPad. That program, supplied with Windows, will open Rich Text Files (which are actually no wealthier than other files

)

If you know which drive and directory you stored the rtf on, you should be all set. Just start up WordPad, click Open, and navigate to the directory.

HOLD IT --
I just checked my TablEdit32 directory and the help file is a regular Windows help file == not an RTF. I did have to download it separately. It's found on www.tabledit.com if you're a registered user. That's where I got it anyway. Good luck.

As announced, I've implemented a simple copedant support.

The Pitch change dialog box allows you define the strings to be affected
by the effect which is currently selected in the list. For now the
settings are still saved in the general initialization file but I'm
planning to save the PSG configuration with each tablature which
doesn't use the default values.

If you want to try the new possibilities:

- Import a midi file within a PSG tablature. Then select the
Score|Transpose command and the "Optimize Fingering" option, TE will try
to align the notes the best way.

- Open a guitar tablature. Open the "Tuning" dialog and select the
"Impact->Fingering" option. Then select in the list box your favourite
PSG tuning. Then select the Transpose feature as above...

- If the "Fingering Errors" screen option is checked, TE will show the
inconsistent tab numbers and pedal changes.

I'm waiting for your comments.

Matthieu,
Is the PITCH CHANGE dialog set up only for a 10 string steel? What about 12 stringers
[UNIVERSAL]?
With only 10 strings, it throws almost all my standard pedals off. For instance, my 1st
pedal [A] raises strings 5 and 9 [not the 10th] a whole step and lowers string 12 a whole step .

The B pedal is OK, but my B also raises the
10th string [G#] a half step as well.

Is there some place to change the PITCH CHANGE from a 10 stringer to a 12stringer?

I haven't tried any of the transposing features yet, but I really like the new pitch change features. Adding the letters for pedals and levers goes much faster.

It would be possible to have 12 check boxes in the pitch change dialog, but I simply don't know how to present them elegantly, within the actual dialog size

But don't worry, I'll find a trick to change dynamically the dialog following the number of strings... It won't be very nice looking when there are more than 10 strings but it will work. That's the most important.

I've been trying out some guitar tabs
thru your new tranpostion feature to go from
6 string to PSG E9. A few spots would need to be reworked a little.
For instance, there was one chord, I think, with the root at the 1st fret, the next note of the chord was an open string, and the 3rd
note of the chord was at the 3rd fret.
Pretty tuff to pluck this one all at the same time; but the notes could be easily figured out and a grabbable postion found.

But the transposing is really cool. You're first looking at 6-string guitar tab, and the next minute, VOILA!, you're looking at the same song in E9 tuning. All in all, this is a real timesaver.

Looking forward to you getting a PSG 12-stringer configured. I can't believe what you have accomplished in the short time since you've [and posted on the SGForum] asked for our input on the steel as it relates to TablEdit.

I have started working with the registered version of Tabledit and here is something I am wondering.
Without creating tab can you enter in a complete musical score on the music staff?
Are all the musical symbols in the palette to allow one to do this? In other words if I had a music score hard copy and wanted to enter it on the music staff with no tab. Is it possible to do this?
Another question:
I notice provision for a triplet. Is it possible to say join four eighth notes with one common bar rather than the individual flags? When I do eighth notes now they seem for the most part to join by a common bar but in pairs.
I will be away until the weekend but I hope maybe Matthieu/Doug etc can post an answer up here.
This is a real nice program!

I haven't found a way to join four 1/8's together with a common bar. Multiple 1/8's always appear in pairs. I've tried everything I know, but I'll bet there is a way. And if there isn't, Matthieu will probably write it into the program within a matter of days!

While we´re talking of expanding the setup from 10 to 12 strings - why not go "all the way" to 14 strings (as an option)? I know there must a number of 13 string Fessendens and 14 string Sierras out there.

Actually, there is a way to have, e.g. four beamed 1/8 notes in a 4/4 measure.

Just set the "Free bar" attribute in "Time signature" dialog box.

You will get an beam of eight 1/8 notes. But it can be broken using [x].

I like being able to add, customize, and save the modules for the different tunings, although I mainly use the E9 and C6 PSG ones and the 6 string C6 tuning.
