Stay Out of My Arms

Post by Allen Peterson »

Has anyone ever tabbed the steel ride on an old Jim Lauderdale tune recorded by George Strait called, "Stay Our of My Arms?" It has a nice sounding BC pedal lick that I can't seem to figure out.

This is one of my favorite shuffles.Unfortunatley,Tabbing stuff on the computer gives me migraines and in a bad mood.Paul Franklin did a good job on this tune and every tune he does. All I know is it is in the key of "G".

That cut was done by George's road band. That's not Paul on that one. Usually one cut on his albums are done with his road band.

Sure sounds like Paul Franklin to me. Jack where did you get info that that was Mike Daily playing on that track? I may have time on Wed. to tab that one for ya; if someone don't beat me to it.
Do you want the little triplet rolls right before he starts the solo also??

Ricky, I have several George Strait albums in that time frame and each one has a song by his band on it. The steel sound (I play a Franklin) and style both say "not Paul".

Same with "Someone Had To Teach You" on the Livin it up album, that's his band on that cut and "She loves me (she don't love you)".

I heard George on a rare interview and he mentioned, back in the time frame those albums were cut, that he would use his band on at least one cut on each album.

Ricky, I have pretty much figured out the triplet rolls before the solo, but you might want to include them for others if you have the time. Thanks, Allen

Hi Jack; well respected answer to my question. But I have listened to Mike Daily for many years; as he lives only 20 min. from me; and it sounds to me more like Paul than Mike.
I am aware of the ace in the hole band cutting on a track or two here and there(cause I actually had a beer with George and asked him that along time ago); so now I ask you this Jack> "are you a bettin' man" Image
Just having fun pal; not meaning to pull your string of course.

Sounds good Jack> but I did quit drinkin' beer 7 years ago; but I'll take a cup-o-joe.
Now if we can get Paul to confirm or Mike>that would be cool.

This song is from the "Easy come - Easy go" Album. It leaves no credit on the sleeve for the road band. On previous albums the road band has got their credits.

To my ears it`s Paul and this song even show off some of Paul`s fantastic B and C pedal work.

Another song on this album that Paul uses a lot of B and C pedal is "That`s where my baby feels at home".

Allen, I e-mailed you a scanned tab which I wrote a while back.
Sorry I haven`t have time figured out how post the tab here.

Just to add, Ricky - I've been wrong so many times it doesn't bother me anymore. At one time it would have bothered me but since I retired from my day job I seem to have mellowed out a lot. Must be no more day job pressures or hassles.
