Anyone heard these Hawaiian albums?

Post by Jeff Strouse »

I ran across these LP's on the internet and wondered if there is any steel guitar:

Duke Kahanamoku's "Favorites" (this isn't the live Beachboy album recorded just before Duke's passing)

Richard Kauhi & the Polynesians "Hawaiian Sunset"

Barney Isaacs, Jr "Aloha From Hawaii" (1966)

I know the Barney Isaacs album will have steel, but has anyone heard the other two?

Mahalo!

Jeff,
I don't own & haven't heard any of those albums, but I did see a discography that listed Barney Isaacs as the steeler on the "Duke" LP.

Jeff, I can only comment on the 'Duke' LP. It is a compilation of great Hawaiian artists of the 50/60s, from which I have heard a terrific cut by Gabby Pahinui(on steel)that I don't think is on any other. This tune alone is worth the price of admission, and the few others I've heard off it are also very good. The only person I know of who has a copy is Keith Haugen, friend of George 'K'. Lake who may be willing to help in contacting Mr. Haugen, as I don't have his email add. at the moment to give you(maybe later). The 'Duke' LP has not been reissued and is not available anywhere that I know of. It is very hard to find, I've been trying for years. Please inform of any success. Good luck!
