Because of the Wind

Post by Steve Feldman »

Here it is, errors and all - my best shot. I have a tough time annotating the beats & bars so if anyone would care to step up and correct it, I would appreciate it. I also find, of course, that there are lots of different ways to do the 9th and 10th bars - i.e., the walkdown and walk up in F - but this is as close as I can get to what I think Lloyd is doing. I would love for someone who has played this before to provide some feedback so that the tab can be improved.

Hey Steve good work; but?
I've played this song many many times and I do know how Lloyd played it; cause when I was in the studio recording some steel on a project he was producing; I showed him how I was playing it to see if it was right.
So; I don't have time to tab right now; but the first part is played on the 5th string starting on the 5th fret no pedal then sixth fret then A pedal on 9th then 8th then let it off the hit 5 and 6 pedals down and go from there. Then on the 6minor to the 4 chord part>13th fret strings 8;6;5 and pedal into 5th string; then hit 2nd string then hit 4th string then hit 8;6;5 with A pedal on and bend into B pedal; then hit 2nd string then 4th and finish with 4;5;6.
Then the next part is strings 3;4 13th fret and hit them then BandC pedals down and then slid up the 15th fret with BandC then back to 13th then strings 4and5 and do the same thing with BandC pedals to the 15th fret and then hit 4and5 BandC pedals again on 13th fret and finish up on 8th fret. Than the Gminor part is played on 6th fret starting 3and4 strings and finished on 8th fret. Then the high desending part starts on 15th fret with 3rd string Bpedal and down 4 chromatic notes than major scale from there.
Try that and I hope that makes since and I'm out of time for now.

Thanks Ricky - I'll give your ideas a shot. Like I said, I'm happy to have someone jump in and show me/us the 'right' way to play it. What I have up there DOES work - it's close to what Maines was doing, but I think I got there a different way.

Since this seems to be one of a lot of people's favorite steel solos, I welcome anyone who wants to add whatever they think would make it work out right.

J.P. and P.D. - I know you're out there listening. Jump in here.
Thanks.
