maybe somebody can get me in the right direction but i found it this was say key of D
string fret
(2) 8---11--10
(5) 8---10a--10
-----------------------
(1) 3
(2) 3
(3) 3 10--8--5b
(4) 3 3---3d 10d-8d-5
(5) 3a--3 7--5 10--8--5a
(6) 7b-5b
(9) 7--5

ok im going to try it this away, on your second and 5th string on the 8th fret, move to the 11 fret on 2nd string you will have to tilt bar forward,on the 5th string go to 10th with (a) pedal release a pedal same time slide back to 10th on second.
now on 3rd fret strings (3) (4), then 1st and 2nd string, then 4th,and 5th with a pedal in,(all this is on third fret.
then strings 6,7,9 on the 7th fret with b pedal in slide to 5th fret.
then 10th fret D knee, slide to 8th with still d level then 5th fret all on strings 3,4,5. i hope this worked[This message was edited by Joseph Barcus on 08-18-99]

that didnt turn out the way i typed it oh well back to the drawong board, it all came in one line, it should have spead out

This is how I learned the intro to "Look At Us". I learned it by ear so I don't know how "right" it is. I know the notes are right but there are so many ways to get the same thing that you can never be sure unless you talk to John Hughey yourself.

Going all the way from fret 1 to 13 and changing from AB to BC is more difficult than just engaging the L lever. However the one thing that clued me into this was the loss of sustain on the record as John makes it back to fret 6. Also there is a lead-in slide to the 11th fret that I showed with ~~~~. I start at about fret 9. Perhaps I should show it on the tab, but it may start earlier on the fretboard.

Also your use of the L lever on fret can be eliminated by getting the same notes on the 6th fret. I interpreted that because I believe there is an inherent sustain when engaging the L as opposed to string a new string set on a different fret. See what you think.

Nice post Dave, and I like your other website too. The facinating thing about steel guitar is the many differnet ways to play the same thing. I have learned some things about trying to copy John Hughey. You better be able to switch from AB to BC very quickly. He mixes up the usage of string 3&5 scales using AB with the equivalent 4&6 string BC pedal a lot. Also the same with the minor using BC with strings 4,5,& 6 exchanged with strings 3,4,& 5 with the L lever. As you say, only John could set us straight.

Do you plan on posting the solo? I thought I would but it takes a lot of time. It is so cool that you have wav files of your tab too.

Hey guys. Thanks for the nice comments. Terry, I thought about doing the solo as well since I went ahead and tabbed the intro. Since it was mentioned I think I'll just go ahead and do it. I'll put a wav file of that on my website too when I get it done. I'll work on it tomorrow and with any luck it will be done by tomorrow afternoon.

Try this for that slide down on the first beat of the second measure:

This calls for the full tone lower on your 6th string. (1bLL) It won't work on a push pull because of the dominant raise thing, but you could drop the b pedal and lower it 1/2 tone if you have a half stop on it. That's what I hear when I listen to JH, anyway. Try it, I think you'll like it.

Yes, I always knew I never had the full 3 note 7th at the 1st fret. How do you mechanize the double lower?
