I a considering a reso guitar in kit form from Stewart MacDonald's catalog. Has anyone ever tried building one of these before? I am a pretty fair craftsman but dont really know what I would be getting into here. I would appreciate any feedback from anyone who has gone this route. Thanks, Martin.

I think this popped up before.
I've not heard of any experiences with the StewMac kit, however, I've seen discussion on RESOGUIT-L from several folks that built the Paul Beard kit (Resophonic Outfitters).
You can call them at 301-733-8271 and I'm sure they'd be happy to answer any questions.

Hello,
I think the StewMac and Beard kits are the same. At any rate I built a guitar from the Beard kit, and at least to my non-professional but critical ears, it came out great! You'll need to learn a bit about basic luthiering (and more than basic woodworking) and probably get some tools you'll never use again, but patience and persistence should yield you not only a lovely instrument but an intimate knowledge of how the thing works.
I recommend the StewMac book on guitar finishing too, that part was hard for me.
The resoguit-l list has a whole bunch of folks who have done this plus pro luthiers who will happily offer advice.
