Howdy folks,

What are y'all's thoughts on which tuning to put on which neck? I can adjust either closer/farther, and also up/down, so I can get to relatively the same 'position' over each neck, so what else do I consider? I am (getting) familiar with the C6 (albeit 6 string), was planning on using an E13 on the other neck (which I know nothing about). I'd be interested in hearing some comments. Also, as a future consideration, would be the tunings covered in the Jerry Byrd course.

I have a C6th on the neck closest to me just like on my pedal guitar. On the farthest neck, I have, what I call, a C# minor 7th tuning.
From high to low it's: E C# B G# E B G# E.
When I had a triple 8, I had an A tuning on the third neck.

I'm never sure which they mean by the "front" neck, but I put the tuning I use most (G6) on the neck it's easiest for me to reach, which in my case is the one closest to me, not that it makes that much difference. The other neck is D13.

I just deleted a bunch of stuff when I reread your question and realized you weren't asking which tunings to use, but which one to put on which neck.


One thing that's worth considering is to have a "narrow" tuning on one neck (i.e. close intervals, like E13 with b or d on the bottom), and a "wide" tuning on the other, like E7 or A6 with a low E or even
C6 with a low C. That way you can get variety in your accompanying parts and you can double bass and guitar riffs if you want.

Carter,
Some folks like to put the heavy strings on the thickest neck. I guess there is some logic to that. The way the guitar resonates?

I think of E13 as a strum type of tuning. It has a great sound on blues, rockabilly, jazz.
I use the tuning called Leon's E13. After Leon McAullif. This tuning uses some heavy strings.

IF you use a neck for E13, consider making the other neck B6, or A6, instead of C6. E, A, and B are naturally related. With this arrangement it is easier to move from one neck to another during a song.

WEll here's the way I heard it on my Fender Triple-8 Stringmaster.
The thickest neck(farthest away from player) had the deapest tonal sustain...so I always put my Highest tuning(smallest guages) on that neck....so they would resognate the best tone for the thinner strings....than middle tuning(middle guages) and bottom tuning(thinnest neck) I used the thicker guaged tuning...

Top to bottom is how I had it>(E13;D13+9;C6)
