Hi There,

I'm a newbie both to pedal steel and this forum so excuse me if this topic has been covered before.

I got hold of a Sho Bud Maverick to start learning with-it's one of the few instruments that was available for me in Perth, Western Australia. Anyway, I'm looking to upgrade the pickup.

Can anyone offer me suggestions and know what will fit?

Anyone?

I do realise it's a lowly question for folks that play some nice instruments but.....

That pickup is the same one that was put in the professional models of the ShoBud and sounds great and is sought after- the really classic single coil sound. Lots of other pickups are available but beware- you might just end up back where you started as far as tone is concerned~~

Thanks Jim,

A friend of mine has a close to identical Maverick but my pickup mounting looks slightly different and the pickup sounds a fair bit weaker in output. This is why I'm looking at replacement.

It doesn't sound faulty but I guess could have becomed de-gaussed in some way.

If anyone can tell me how to post a pic I could do so.

The difference between your steel and your friends might be the pickup height...are they both the same?? That can make a big difference in output AND tone.

Sooner or later you'll want a better guitar. Perhaps you should save your money now and use it towards a pro model when the timing is right.
