Attention-Aussie steelers...

Post by Steve Hinson »

A steel player from my hometown(Macon GA)and the first one I ever saw/heard...

Pee Wee Clark-he moved to your beautiful country when I was a kid...

At some point(70s?)Pee Wee recorded an album with Buddy Emmons and Thumbs Carlille...I saw a copy at Ray Melton's studio in Warner Robins,GA when I was playing
on a session there in 1973(yes,I am that old),but I never got to hear it...

I need this record! Also like to hear any info about where it was done, etc...if I could get the
digitized files, that would be great too!

TIA

Hi Steve, I met Pee Wee several times at the Brisbane Steel Guitar Show in the early 2000s, oh boy was he handful. Have a chat to Paddy Long about him at this years Irish Steel Show, he will be able to tell you a few stories about Pee Wee.

Yes I have a copy. Made for Festival records SFL934546. There is more information here https://www.discogs.com/release/1304194 ... untry-Jazz
Mack (Phil) Clark played bass and was Pee Wee's son. One day I will figure out how to convert my vinyl to digital I can send you a copy since it is way out of print. Good luck finding a copy. I can't imagine too many exist and probably were fed to a dumpster years ago.

On the rear of the cover is a photo of Pee Wee sitting at his steel. Í always recall he played an Emmons single neck. Indeed the picture shows a single neck Emmons but has 6 pedals that are visible in the picture. I dont think he played a universal at all. Is this an off the shelf Emmons or a custom maybe?

I think it a little weird there is no picture of Buddy Emmons on this album. I guess Festival realised this was a very niche market album and were reluctant to invest any money in it.
