The Look Of Love
Ever since the death of Burt Bacharach I’ve had this song in my head, having kinda forgotten what a great composer he was, as this is more music from my youth than what I may listen to today.
I wanted to do something a little different for me, (less chordy, and more single note line, but don’t ask me what modes I played, but if YOU know them tell me) so this is a Jazz-Bossa/Swing version.
My arthritic thumbs have been giving me fits the last few weeks, and doing this a shade faster than Burt didn’t help, but after a couple swings at this was able to put sorta put it together.

Well played, Dale.
A couple of different changes in your version but musical license is just fine!
Now I'm going to look at that one, too. Burt was my favourite pop composer, bar none!

Thanks Roger ... although I used the chords that were given in the track I used, my ear still isn't keen enough to hear some of the subtleties, so I'm sure I must've missed some.Roger Rettig wrote:Well played, Dale.

And yes Burt was HUGE in the his day and still holds up well today.
Thank you CraigCraig Stock wrote:Great job! very nice!
Thank you Larry. I agree with the tempo change. I was drawn to that as soon as I stumbled onto it.Larry Dering wrote:Great playing Dale. I love the variation in tempo from Ballad to Swing. The sound was good and your version excellent. Thanks Dale.

Hi Dale loved that. You certainly know your way around that fret board. I think mixing the odd chord with single note riffs worked a treat. I also liked the tempo changes. Kept me on my toes. Its something I have to learn. sounds more professional than all chords. I'm still trying to find where all of the chords are hiding. Dave

I think this is the most single notes I've ever done in a song. I've always been Chord oriented, but those chords stand out much better when surrounded by single notes, plus single notes just sound REALLY good to my ear.
As for the tempo changes, I used a Jazz - Bossa/Swing track from iReal, which I doctored to add a little more length to the song. I'm still trying to find all the chords as well. iReal Jazz arrangements have a LOT of b5, b9, #11, #13 things which throw me knowing where to find that EXACT chord, so manly I'm using my ear to find what my ear thinks fits, for better or worse.

I appreciate the encouragement Cat, thank you. Hopefully in time I'll have a deeper understanding of the tuning. I forget the name of the chord as soon as I find it, and then have to find it again with my ear, or once again a note at a time. I'm a HOT MESS CatSteve Cattermole wrote:Great job on a great tune.
