MSA Semi-Classic, 3 pedals, 1 knee lever - ? Add a lever?

Post by David Trabue »

How likely is an old MSA Semi-Classic, 3 pedals, 1 knee lever, able to accommodate an additional knee lever to expand the function. Current lever drops 2 strings by 1/2 step.

Thanks. I thought I'd read that they were open to upgrading.

Here's photos of the undercarriage and end block.

As I recall, the Semi Classic came from the factory drilled for a maximum of 6 crossrods. So you can easily add another pedal and another lever, or 2 more levers if you'd rather. And if you have the right parts, it's a simple job. But when you're creative and have some basic tools, you can add anything you want. When I bought my Classic back in '73, it came with only 2 levers. I bought one more lever kit, and then quickly fashioned 5 more levers from raw stock, for a total of 8. (Kinda neat what you can do with a drill press, a hacksaw, a button die, and a bunch of files when you're poor but industrious).

The Semi-Classic is so close in design to the Classic, I've seen several of them actually sell as a "Classic".
(They just removed the word "Semi" from the front apron. )
