Robbie Robertson RIP
Robbie RIP — 80 years old.
A banjo, like a pet monkey, seems like a good idea at first.

Some more info. Great musician. The Band was the absolute best. Only Garth Hudson is left.

Everybody knows some of Robbie Robertson's great songs like "The Weight", "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down", "Up On Cripple Creek", etc. but among my favorites were "Christmas Must Be Tonight", from the Band's album, 'Islands'.

Robbie Robertson was the son of a Canadian woman who was Cayuga and Mohawk. After Robbie and the Band parted ways he was commissioned to write music for the documentary 'Native Americans'. The commission resulted in 'Music for The Native American' which was also released as an album. 'Music for The Native American' features The Red Road Ensemble made up of Native American men and women including Rita and Priscilla Coolidge, Robbie's son, Sebastian and his daughter, Delphine. My favorite song from the album is "Skinwalker". For those who aren't familiar with what a skinwalker is, it's a supernatural Native American spirit legend capable of changing its form. Here's a live performance of Robbie Robertson and the Red Road Ensemble performing "Skinwalker":
