I ran across a thread on the Forum that posted Mike Auldridge's G6 8-string set gauges.
I'd like to try a couple sets before a full dive but I'm not finding a source that would make up just 2 or 3 sets.
The sources I have found want a dozen strings of each gauge.
.059
.056
.045
.035
.034
.026
.018
.016
Phosphor bronze wound.
I've been using standard gauge 6 string reso sets that are close but not exact and trying to fill the bottom 2 with whatever I can find in single strings.
Suggestions for a source for custom gauge sets? |

As an 8 string G6 player I can tell you that the easy route to take is to opt for a 6 string G set (D'Addario EJ42 is my personal choice) and to source singles for your 4th and 8th strings.
Local guitar stores, Amazon and (I think) Justtrings.com should have singles or 5 packs that won't break the bank.
I'm not aware of a current provider of 8 string/G6 reso sets.

Also fwiw...
I use a .030 for string 4 and a .058/.059 for string 8.
It's all personal preference. Sometimes I just use what I can source the easiest.
My right hand seems not to care.

Everything Howard just said. I use a .032 for string 4, and .059 for string 8. JUST STRINGS makes it really easy. _________________ David K |

Thanks guys. I'll try a different tack for communicating with Just Strings. Going through their website it seemed that the minimum quantity for single strings was 12.
Maybe a direct phone call...

As example, I see 5 packs of D'Addario PB030 (phos bronze .030) on Amazon, Reverb and other places. $7 |
