Hi all,

Wanted to get some feedback here. I'm fairly new to steel guitar and troubleshooting in general. I added my location just in case any locals would be willing to help out. The rod hooked to my C lever raising string 4 will not hold in place. If seems tight to the crank until I engage the pedal, and then will not return to its original position with the crank. The guitar is a Fessenden D-10 that was converted. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Sounds like it could be overtuned. Back off the nylon tuners so you are sure they don't touch the changer finger at rest. Tune your open note at the keyhead, then tune your raise on the string, to F# on the C pedal, F on the F lever (there is no C lever), then the lower to D# on a knee lever.

If it’s not overtuned check to see if the crossbar is stiff. This is a common issue with Fessenden’s. They are easy to loosen though. There should some wiggle in the crossbar after you make sure it’s not overtuned.

True. I worked on 2 Fessys and found this problem on one of them. I forgot about it.
