Thanks for the encouraging words! The pedal does seem to be original as does the pot. I don't see any re-soldered connections. I will try replacing a couple of the problem strings today with similar gauge guitar strings. If I was getting this problem on my tele, I would be looking at the nut as the cause. In the meantime, does anyone have a lead on where I can buy knee lever kits?

Replacing two strings with comparable gauge guitar strings solved the problem. Still a bit harsh sounding for my taste.

That is a very nice guitar for starting on and for quite some time later. I started on the 2nd generation of these with no raised neck and some pretty faky looking brown burl mica. It sounded good...it helped me learn to do quite a bit of everything.

That is a simply awesome deal for that guitar...you will go far with that.
