RIP Astrud Gilberto. Lip synched .... music of timeless beauty even though this clip makes a bad edit from the version with Gary Burton to the classic original recording with Joao Glberto and Stan Getz.

Joao Gilberto was angry when Getz wanted Astrud to sing on their first collaboration as he viewed his wife as only a housewife who only sang at home. Girl from Ipanema became a world-wide hit and launched her 50+ year career. She had an affair with Getz that broke up her marriage. She was always a bit flat but sang with charm and great Brazilian feel. It sure was great growing up in the 60s and 70s. RIP Astrud.

I confess to a bit of a crush on Astrid, that innocence and charm, that affair with Getz... Well, jazz happens....
Her flat vibrato and seemingly flat affect must have had an impression; I favor the flat delivery of the musical legacy of Brazil (and love the bossa nova more than most).
Vibrato is a tool to be used sparingly, on voice and steel (in my humble opinion)
but most of all, like Mike said, it was great growing up in the '60s, musically, and as a lad. It's hard to see sex appeal in her first two album covers I still see in mind
but this is before sex, it's puppy love, even excusing certain notes that are bound to be going sharp, you have to from the girl you love.
