ZB Pedal Steel Guitars - Please help!

Andrew,
Your/my SD-10 is, and I don't know any other way to describe it, is the sweetest and clearest sounding steel I have ever played. It just rings out. Now, I'm going to put some white fretboards on the blue one and change the setup. Be prepared to call the men with the white coats for me.

Concerning fret spacing on steel guitars, they are there for reference only. If you do not have a good ear you need to pick another instrument, maybe not a fiddle or upright bass or dobro.

Chuck, It feels beautiful beyond compare. I am a very lucky and thankful man that the powers that be gave me the opportunity to purchase this fantastic sounding piece of beautiful wood and incomprehensible mechanics that I stupidly sold in a minute of sheer stupidity. For the record, your U-12 and Steve Takacs's D-11 ZB are safe and I will never bother either of you again about buying them, ever again. I have all the beautiful ZBs that a man could want, or reasonably deserve.
I have to tell you that the birdseye maple on the SD-10 is the most beautiful that I have ever seen. I am one lucky man.

Uh...Bob...I kinda think I need about three, but I'll have to satisfy myself with two. Anyway, I'm planning on major renovations on the blue one. I'll be adding white fretboards and changing the setup signifcantly. Before I'm through, I'll probably jump out a window. If you want, though I'll make provisions in my will for it to be transferred to you in the event of my demise.

Actually, Bob, the blue one is in great shape as it is. I'm just planning on messing around with it for funsies. I have a strange idea of what is fun. I'll let you know, though, before I jump.

Thanks Duncan, I am willing to bet you'll never SELL another ZB. I really should try to find an S-10 anyway......anybody got a basket case S-10 out there?

I am trying to add 3 knee levers to my D-10 & have talked to Greg Jones about it. He has been very nice & helpful, but it has been 8 months & he has obviously been to busy to get to me yet. Is there anyone else who can get me parts or do this addition, or am I best off to continue to wait. I find I don't play the guitar that much without those knee levers. Thanks, Tom

To all my ZB brothers and sisters, I guess there a few sisters who play this fine instrument, I wish you all Happy Thanksgivings. I am thankful for all the assistance and guidance you folks have given me over the past year. I am also very thankful for the two ZBs that arrived at my door since last Thanksgiving. Greg and Andrew, I thank you.

I can't believe this.......... I sat down and read this ENTIRE thread last night, then went out to find some entertainment,(NO luck)...... ate, then came home(I can hear the remarks, cut to the chase)......anyway I had this dream about having to play Jerry Garcia in a movie and not getting the part, NOT because I didn't LOOK like Jerry, but becuse I didn't have a ZB steel guitar!! was it the food??? holy cow.....am I going to have to buy a ZB?? OHH Man this is bad..... I'm already thinking about buying an old fender 400 ....now this .....sheesh, ohh well..... by the way, its a GREAT thread

okay i'm going to preface this post before i get into it by saying this is sort of out there. anyway, i have had dreams with garcia in them where we were talking about steel and different stuff relating to it, even discussing the webb amp that i at the time had bought. there is only one steel that sounds like "Teach Your Children"...

C'mon Jim. Just take the plunge and get a ZB. You know that you want one. This is coming from a former other well known and respected brand that shall remain untold owner, there is no other sound, unless you want the Emmons sound, then you should get an emmons. BTW Kevin Hatton has one for sale as we speak. Then you can look as happy as this man

I am only making very modest progress learning steel but these posts sure make me feel good about my ZB. Whenever I feel I'm not making progress, I just open up this post and get some revitalisation tonic.

A small tip : I was missing one of the tone / volume knobs from my D10 and was thinking I would never get a replacement but I rekon they are the same knobs as on a Fender Jazz bass which are readily available.I still haven't got around to replacing mine but one of these days...........

Anyone know where Jerry Garcia's ZB D-10 is? I was doing a Google search & came up with an interview with Peter Grant at the time of Jerry's death who said that Jerry gave it to him years earlier & he had been recording & playing it ever since. Sounds like he was part of the Dead's family.

I just took serial # 1107 Black Beauty out tonight on its first job since restoration. Its a killer. Its dead accurate and has lots of sizzling overtones. I had two separate comments by visiting musicians on the tone. These ZB's are amazing. Played through my Webb with an RV-3.
