I had originally bought this for use with bass guitar, but I find it works wonders on steel as well.
It's basically just a buffer and high pass filter unit. My guitar has GFI III humbucker pickups, and I was finding them super boomy on the lower strings, even when tweaking amp EQ for a brighter sound. Was considering replacing the pups with single coils but I figured I would try plugging this unit in the signal chain first.
The Micro Thumpinator seems to retain the warmth of the humbucking pickup but brings back a lot more clarity. Doesn't add noise or kill the top end sparkle.
Hadn't seen it mentioned on the forum before. Hopefully this will help anyone struggling to get clarity on humbucker pickups!
