Revelation suddenly quit working

Post by Dennis Detweiler »

I warmed up the Rev, tuned up and noodled around before shutting it off for two hours before the gig. When I turned it on the pilot light lit up for a second, then went off. The fuse is ok. The tubes don't light, but I can hear the faint hum of the transformer. I installed 3 new JJ 12AX7mg tubes 3 months ago. Is there another fuse inside that could have blown as a result of a shorted tube or other component?

I opened it this morning. No bulging caps. Other components look normal. Nothing burnt. I plugged it in and still nothing except for the mild transformer hum. Tubes don't light. I'll likely have to send it to Brad.

That's a rare situation. I contacted Brad a few years back on a minor hum in mine. He was most helpful. No schematic can be found or offered. Only option is sending for repair.

It was only the pilot light that burned out. The outside visual of the 12AX7MG tubes don't glow as bright as most, so I thought they weren't lighting. In a panic with 5 minutes before gig start time, I just switched out the Rev with a backup rack system. So, the Rev is back to work with a new #47 bulb.

Ha! I replaced the bulb in mine because it was intermittent. I replaced tubes and the on off switch as well. Nothing wrong with the tubes or switch but I was chasing a hum coming out my amp.

Well, since you got a fancy new (tube) preamp, might be time to pony up for a (solid-state #47) bulb! :D

I wouldn't like being the one to install that tiny led inside that glass bulb any more than I would like to work in a cigarette factory putting cigarettes inside a pack of cigarettes.
