Fragile

Post by Rick Schmidt »

I posted this on Facebook yesterday:

Since I’ve noticed lately that I’ve been feeling a little fragile these days, I thought maybe I should post this…Don’t worry I’ll be fine, it’s mostly emotional, but this video was just sent to me by my friends Mary and Jerome of a song I sang right after throat cancer treatments a few years ago at the SWSGA steel show, and I never had the morbid curiosity to watch it then. Just a few months earlier, I thought I’d never hear the same, let alone sing.
So warts and all here it is…(clams, wrong lyrics, crappy charts that were fielded beautifully by some of my incredibly talented friends ..Peter Freiberger, Harry Orlove, Dan Range, and one of the best steel players in the world on piano, Doug Livingston!), plus debilitating steel show nerves

I can't detect any trace of nerves, Rick! A terrific performance all around.

I hadn't heard this song before but that lyric does resonate, doesn't it?

I love the big chords you're getting and the emotive single-lines.

Bravo!!

Rick proves how much Jazzy C6th stuff is available on E9th when put in the right hands. There's a wealth of musical knowledge in Ricks heads that I wish I could access.

I appreciate all the recordings that forum members post for our enjoyment and education, but when we get a gem like this…it is a reminder of what real pros can sound like when they are given the opportunity to play what they really know with all their heart and soul, and how lucky we are that they share. Thank you Rick, and Doug, and the rest of the group there with you.

Wow, just one chord after another I've never heard on E9... You're a great singer too!

Rick,
Thanks for pointing us to this great performance! I’m inspired by you on multiple levels, and I hope you’ll post more on your channel in the future. We need more of your work out there.
