When I was younger (and poorer), I always cleaned my Ohmite or AB pots with a spray cleaner that I got from a local radio repair shop. Worked great. However, the carbon contact on the movable slider will eventually wear down and then there is no fixing it, that I am aware.

Thanx,
Jim

Correct. It will eventually wear beyond repair.

FYI...Also, always make sure your contact cleaner is a contact cleaner/lubricant. Without the lube the pot will wear very fast.

Hard to say. If the noise was due to excessive wear, probably not. But if the noise was due to some dirt in the wrong place, it could easily go a couple more years.

I just replaced the pot in my 1974 MSA v-pedal..It started to feel "crunchy" ..when I took it out I could not even turn the shaft .. 32 years of service..not too shabby
