When I was younger (and poorer), I always cleaned my Ohmite or AB pots with a spray cleaner that I got from a local radio repair shop. Worked great. However, the carbon contact on the movable slider will eventually wear down and then there is no fixing it, that I am aware.
Thanx,

Correct. It will eventually wear beyond repair.
FYI...Also, always make sure your contact cleaner is a contact cleaner/lubricant. Without the lube the pot will wear very fast. |

Hard to say. If the noise was due to excessive wear, probably not. But if the noise was due to some dirt in the wrong place, it could easily go a couple more years.

I just replaced the pot in my 1974 MSA v-pedal..It started to feel "crunchy" ..when I took it out I could not even turn the shaft .. 32 years of service..not too shabby |
