Isn't necesserairly the steel , it's me!

Post by Ben Lawson »

I've learned it isn't always the steel, it's my feet! My feet don't feel the pedals like they used to. I have two steels, a d10 and an s10. When I notice that they seemed to have the same tuning issues I tried to fix it. I had to learn that, because of neuropathy,it's not the steels , it's my feet. I think this has been discussed here before, but I just wanted to throw it out here.

I have the same issue. Now I have discovered that the temp at the floor is a few degrees colder than up here where my face and hands are. I'm in an improved garage that still has a concrete floor. For now... I'll pad it and carpet it this Summer, as a space heater has solved the problem temporarily. Might check your air temp near the floor...

Sorry about your feet... I'm getting it more and more and know several others with it as well.

Have you come up with a good work around, or you just live with it?

Landon and Dale, thanks. I'm not sure what I'll do. At 77 long term is questionable. If the doctors can help that would be great. I still have arthritis in my hands and I'll be looking into fixing or quitting? We'll see soon.

For me heat does the trick. Once I realized the temp was low by the floor, I solved it temporarily with a space heater. Next year I'll have a heating pad under the rug.

I have the same problems. I have neuropathy, caused by chemo. Sometimes pedaling is just by instinct as I can't feel the pedals. Seems to affect the A pedal the most.

Yes I recognize it completely. It is the reason I sold my D-10 and replaced it with a S-12 with 4 floor pedals and a hybrid tuning(B0b). Left foot over pedal A&B or left foot over 5&6 The rest of the important changes moved over to the knees. I heart about heated socks I might try that. If nothing else works, remove all pedals. I am serious, I had Maurice Anderson as my house guest when he toured Europe he played his S-12 without the pedals in my living room.

You can also try this on your S-10; remove the C pedal and tune your F knee lever to F#. This way your foot can stay at one place and your muscle memory does the rest.
