B Pedal on my Carter Steel

Hi,
I am learning to play my 10 string Carter pedal steel in E9 tuning. I just discovered that my B pedal raises the 2nd string (D#) and the 6th string. I think it should raise the 3rd sting (G#) instead. Why would it be set up this way and can I adjust it to raise the 3rd string? It looks complicated under there. I appreciate any help you can offer.

Yeah, it should raise 3 and 6.

Do the A and C pedals have normal pulls on them?

You should just be able to switch the pull to the 3rd string, moving the bell crank over a bit so it aligns with string 3.

Only finicky part would to be to try the different holes on the raise finger and the bell crank to get the timing right. I'm SURE there is a Carter rodding chart floating around, or someone with a Carter can tell you which holes are correct.

Thanks Mike. The A pedal is good but the C pedal only raises the 7th string which I think is incorrect. Darn it!

Hum, 4 and 5 should be raised by P3.

Might need to find some parts. They are available - someone bought all the Carter parts when they closed. Al Brisco I think?

It sounds like your guitar is set up with someone's unusual copedent.

You really need to have someone in the know look it over, evaluate what you have and what needs to be done to make it more conventional and what you want. Otherwise, you're just gonna wind up chasing your tail.

C pedal needs to pull 4th string to F#, 5th string to C#, With the B pedal give you same minor chord 7 frets down the neck.
Example: A Pedal Em at 3rd fret, At 10th fret, B & C pedals is another Em.

On a standard 10 string E9th Emmons/Nashville tuning first 3 pedals are the basics of the E9th tuning.

1st/A Pedal should raise 5th and 10th strings from B to C#.

2nd/B Pedal should raise 3rd and 6th strings from G# to A.

3rd/C Pedal should raise 4th string E to F#, 5th string B to C#.

A TIP ON MOVING PULLS. TUNE SMALLER STRING FIRST. When setting up new pulls on the B pedal, Adjust the smaller (3rd) string first and adjust the pulls and stops. Then go to the larger (6th) string, The larger the string, Less travel needed to reach same note. Taking less travel it will tune in the set stops limit.

If you try to adjust larger string first, The stop will have to be moved when time to tune smaller string.

Good Luck getting the pedals set up to play proper, Then to the knee levers that raise and lower strings 4&8.

Huge shout-out to Mr. Wayne Brown of Bassano, Alberta who fixed the many issues with my Carter D-10! He even fixed the reverb in my Peavey Nashville 112 and sorted out my volume pedal. Now all I have to do is learn how to play this beast! If you live in the Great White North and you need work done Wayne is your man.
