these Country Music Time radio shows are a real goldmine of classic country sounds, with Hal Rugg behind the steel among others.
here's Hal with Claude Gray doing a short but sweet Night Life, at 3 mins 12 secs:

Thanks for sharing. That was really great. One of the greats and what a fat tone he had there. Whenever Hal played bluesy laid back single note lines I always wondered how much he had listened to Miles Davis’s early work. _________________ Bill Cunningham

Does that amp humming while Claude is talking make anyone else feel warm and nostalgic? You’d never get away with that on a recording today. _________________ Bill Cunningham

That's some cool stuff. Hal could easily play the classic tunes or some complex jazz at any show. Definitely a 1st class pro steeler. I seen Hal perform at many steel shows for a number of years. A wonderful experience for me. |

You can't know how exotic that 60 cycles hum sounds to our European ears.... _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!
