Oops….let’s call this send some best of Buddy Emmons Country

Post by Brock Duos »

New kid on the block…Love some sharp country steel. I ran my mouth last evening if you were one of the ones who saw it. Hahaha. I redact my statement and would love to hear some of the top recommendations of buddy Emmons doing the thing. Thanks all and sorry if I ruffled some feathers. Hahah

Before you go any further in, you might look into a little history.

https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=379510

Might start with him being responsible for developing the E9th Chromatic tuning -

Give it to me! I’ve honestly love learning the weird quirks and stuff (s.it), but seriously e9 is bizarre. Those top two seem foreign

If you don't hear anything else from me, I'm going to bed. I'm tired, and I'm also worried you might question Lloyd Green's ability next!

I'm sure someone here will chime in soon -

Maybe it’s the c6 jazzy stuff is all I can find from him. Seems kind of boring. Just an observer.

Just to play along for the moment, are there any E9 players you don’t think are boring?

Yeah…that’s alright, but Ernest tubb could have got away with anyone in that spot. I’m honestly more impressed with that guitar player.

happy to help out here... yes, Buddy played C6 jazz better than anyone but no one is more responsible for the evolution of the E9 and the way we tune those 10 strings than Buddy Emmons.

I love all the guys you mention. Bud Isaacs is the father of the E9 tuning, because he was the first to use the A+B pedal sound on a country record (on a single pedal). he influenced everyone that came after him, but he was simply not the player that Buddy Emmons was. in fact, nobody was... on either neck. same with Ralph Mooney, a massive influence on everyone in the field and a total one-of-a-kind, but not a virtuoso in the way Emmons was. and Pete Drake might've played on more records but he couldn't hold a candle to The Big E.

I'm bored... so here's 20 examples of Buddy's historic and unbeatable E9 playing, and some of my personal favorites:

Ernest Tubb - Half a Mind

Ray Price - Touch My Heart

Johnny Bush - Sound of a Heartache

Roger Miller - Nothing Can Stop My Love

Jeannie Seely - Mr. Record Man

Willie Nelson - Something to Think About

Duane Eddy - Twang a Country Song (entire album)

Buddy Emmons - Danny Boy

Buddy Emmons - Blue Jade

Buddy Emmons - Wichita Lineman

Judy Collins - Someday Soon

Judy Collins - Poor Immigrant

John Sebastian - Rainbows All Over Your Blues

The Buckaroos - Cajun Steel Guitar

Gram Parsons - That's All It Took

Glen Campbell - Ocean In his Eyes

John Hartford - Cuckoo's Nest

Buddy Emmons - Expedition E9 (entire album)

Buddy Emmons - Linus & Lucy medley

Buddy Emmons - Rose Colored Glasses

Scott: nice list!

It’s hard for me to believe we’re not being trolled. Maybe one of the Legg boys dropped some bad acid or sumpthin.’
