Songs honoring Pedal Steel Players!

Post by Ellen Jonsson »

I will send the lyrics and demos to anyone who may be interested in two songs I wrote that are an homage to pedal steel players. I will send demos and lyrics to anyone interested. The songs are My Pedal Steel Man that contains lyrics related to specific music that features great pedal steel tracks, and The Pedal Steel Waltz. Both need a band with female country singer.

I am not totally naive, I don't expect hundreds of requests. : )

Gene Watson has a song on his new album called “They Played It” which pays homage to session players in general.
I don't know much but what I know I know very well.
Carter S-10 3X5, Peavey Nashville 112, plus Regal dobro and too many other instruments to mention.
Bluegrass Island CFCY FM 95.1 Charlottetown, PE, Canada, on the web at cfcy.fm.
A Touch Of Texas CIOE FM 97.5 Sackville, NS, Canada,
on the web at cioe975.ca.

Agree but I love the pedal steel the most when it's emotional: Wichita Lineman, Together Again, Look at Us, etc.

Love a steel playin' man

Post by Jim Arnold »

Cowboy Peyton Place by Doug Sahm. Great steel playing and provocative lyrics. Excellent song. This song is about a steel guitar player and his groupie. I don't know if its Doug playing steel, but according to Ricky Davis, Doug was an accomplished steel player. You can find this song on YouTube...check it out.

Jim Arnold:

I'm pretty sure that's Tommy Detamore on the Doug Sahm track.

Tommy is one of the great ones!

Yes Sir Roger & Jim, for sure it is Tommy Detamore. I have the CD and Tommy is all over it, every song. If you do not have you should try to find and buy. Doug Sahm is not the best vocalist but sings his butt off on this CD. Pure Austin, Tx music.

Yes certainly Tommy Detamore and awesome pedal steel playing and Production.
Doug mainly played non-pedal steel since childhood. Awesome player for sure; as he would come out and help along the young "Ricky Davis" steel player ever since I started the Gary P. Nunn in 1989; but he showed up even later years when I was with Dale Watson and here's me and Doug playing twin steels together.....unforgettable.

So, I wrote a tribute song to pedal steel players, called My Pedal Steel Man. I finally got around to doing some demos on a website. It will be after the holidays when I continue working on it, but so far I have posted two demos. ,I need to find a Tammy Wynette-style singer who would love to record them.
In My Pedal Steel Man lyrics, I reference some of my all-time favorites featuring pedal steel:

Really nice Ellen. Has a very classic 60's country feel. By the way, who's your steel player on the demo? Whoever's playing knew exactly what the song called for.
