Hi, a friend of mine who knows that I am collecting orphan PSG parts and plan on building these into a few "Frankensteels" called me and said he had just bought a psg needing parts for next to nothing. I went and looked at it, and all it said was AUSTIN on a stick on label on the right front. I asked what he wanted for it and said he was giving it to me in trade for my helping him design some electronics for a project he has in the works. I offered to pay something, even reimburse him the little he paid but he said no. It is missing the Pedalbar, the 3 pedals, and the black Vinyl covering is pulling up. It has a simple Pull/Release Changer, and an interesting pull mech. on the underside, a wooden neck, and simple non-adjustible legs that push fit into plastic holders mounted on the outside corners of the body. But, ... the whole body looks to be made from U shaped Extruded Aluminum, with two simple Alum. end caps. I did a Google seach and could not find anything on AUSTIN pedal steel guitars. The next night I opened my 1981 #6/#7 issue of Steel Guitarist mag. and low and behold on page # 38 there is a Dekley Ad with a picture of a Dekley Pioneer PSG Kit, that looks exactly like my AUSTIN. I must have a Dekley Pioneer Kit that someone left the Dekley Logo off of and taged "AUSTIN". I would love to get the missing pedalboard and 3 pedals and keep this compleate, but it may just be easier to build these from orphan parts I already have. Questions; Any info on this Pioneer Kit ? Pictures of the pedals ? Do any of the parts from the Dekley 001 model, or others, fit on this kit? Also, I am not big on the black vinyl covering that is pulling up and I've been toying with the idea of just removing it and polishing the Alum. body, or covering it with a thin wood veneer. Any thoughts or info is welcome. |

I've actually seen a pedal steel guitar in the bay area with an Austin logo on it. It was a real flimsy single neck. That was over 10 years ago. It had the pedal board. It didn't really seem like a good deal to me for $450.
That was the one and only time I've heard of an Austin PSG until now. I wonder if it's the same guitar.
Fred, are you still looking for parts? I have a couple of endplates for a D-10 Shobud but the strange thing is that the right one is not cut for the endplate tuners. If you are interested, send me an email.
