What are these tools?

Instruments, mechanical issues, copedents, techniques, etc.

What are these tools?

Post by Jeffrey Beers »

Hi. I’m new to pedal steel guitar having just bought a used GFI D10 from a family down in Beckley, WV..

They gave me a tub of “stuff” with the guitar that included two tools that I have never seen before. Can anybody tell me what they are and what I would use them to make, repair or utterly destroy in a fit of incompetence?

Thanks. Jeff

The one on the bottom is an adjustable spanner tool. It would have come with several different bits to add to the tool to make it fit all sizes. (not for use on any steel guitar that I am aware of.) I have no idea about the top one.

The top tool is for setting a sound post for a violin.

Hi Roy. It must be as you said. I spent forty years in a shop full of mechanics, welders and electricians and supervising plant maintenance for twenty years. I have never seen that particular tool. It must have specialized application.

The tool was in with a piano tuning wrench and the guy had a piano. So, I looked on several sites that sell piano repair, maintenance and tuning tools. Nope.

If someone asks me what that is, I need to be able to discuss it like Cliff Clavine on Cheers. “Ya know, it’s a little known fact……”

If anybody can drill this down to the application on, I’m guessing, upright piano or pedal steel it will be fun. My OCD is percolating.

Thanks.

The spanner wrench is a tool for removing the back cover of wrist watches.
