Fender Stringmaster Repair Recommendation

Post by John B Blair »

Hi, I have a 1957 T8 that's in need of some work on the pickups and push buttons. Looking for recommendations for who is best that I could either ship or take to for this. I've done just about all the troubleshooting that I can do from Google searches and on here. Thanks!

Where in Virginia are you. Billy Cooper's shop in Orange is worth a call.

if further south perhaps Billy Knowles shop in NC.

Known as pedal steel shops but worth a conversation.

Hi John, if you can solder and drill, the first thing I would do is take the push buttons out, drill the holes slightly larger, and rewire it with mini-toggle switches. That totally fixed my quad. You can always get the pickups rewound, if needed. Deoxit works on the buttons temporarily, but you'll have to keep on taking it apart constantly to spray it again.

Yes, I agree. Those push button switches are a nightmare.

Leon McAuliffe modified his Stringmasters to use toggle switches and if it's good enough for Leon...
