History of the steel guitar with Grady Smith & Read Connelly

Post by Ed Baker »

Grady Smith did a fabulous interview with Read Connolly on the history and evolution of the steel guitar.

It's 24 minutes long, but very entertaining.

I just watched that today and I'm a member now because of Read's endorsement!

Hi Bradley. Are you new to steel guitar playing?

Whether you are or not, I'd recommend starting with lap steel. There's too many reasons why.

There's usually some good ones in the Forum's "For Sale" area.

Also, I can't recommend highly enough purchasing all three lap steel books from Doug Beaumier. They're all available at http://playsteelguitar.com

Go to youtube and enter "beaumier steel" in the search box.

Be prepared to lose the rest of your weekend. [/url]

Hey Ed! I’ve been playing C6 lap steel for about 6 years. I recently started taking it more seriously. Lessons with Troy really helped me get started and now I’m doing more transcribing. Been working on Jerry Byrd’s Daydream and the Sweetheart Of the Rodeo album from the Byrds. I must have a thing for birds…

Excellent. It sounds like you're hooked on this instrument like I am.
