Crate Gfx30 Guitar Amplifier (fuse Size?)

Post by Johnny Pal »

WOULD ANYONE KNOW WHAT FUSE AMPERAGE AN OLD CRATE GFX30 50 WATT AMP REQUIRES.
IN LOOKING AT MY FUSE, THERE IS NO RATING ON IT BUT IT HAS A PARTIAL BLUE
COLLAR INSIDE THE GLASS. IF NOT KNOWN, DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT AMP FUSE
IS REQUIRED IN A 50 WATT AMP? DANG THING IS NO WHERE ON THE NET.
THANKS!

It's a 1 amp slow-blow, "T1A" is the code.

Careful, if the fuse popped it likely has a problem in the power section of the amp. Don't use a larger fuse. You may have trouble finding that fuse locally and need to order it.

Aloha Mike: I saw that coding right next to the fuse and it may as well
have been Hieroglyphic or Sanskrit haha! Ain't none too swift on electronics.
Okay, I'll see if I can order it somewhere on-line. And thanks for taking the
time to look up the diagram and encircle the relevant information.
Mahalo so much Mike!

Aloha Larry:
BTW actually the amp never blew a fuse. I just removed the chassis
to try and figure out how to blow off the pots. Dang thing probably
hasn't had them cleaned since the 70's. Then I saw the fuse in the
chassis and thought it a good idea to get a spare. It doesn't have
the fuse in the ordinary place in back of the amp.
Mahalo so much for the heads up!!

Hey Johnny, if you order one, in addition to "T1A" you'll need the diameter and length of the original fuse in millimeters, that's how they sell them. For example, a "5 x 20" is 5mm wide and 20 mm long (about 3/16 x 3/4 inch).

Aloha Mike: Oops, the horse is out of the barn, I ordered a box of fuses
for $6+change from Amazon yesterday. Guess I'll have to wait for the pig in a poke
to see if it matches up. Amazon has a good return policy and the hub is right around
the corner from me. Didn't even think of the size thing and the length looked right on
an eyeball. Thought all guitar amp fuses were uniform in size. Mahalo so much for the heads up!
