Bob Garrett interview

Post by Larry King »

Today we share the story of Bob Garrett & his beginnings.
He started his journey on six string guitar, and bass,
and later to drums. He developed a friendship with Jerry
Roller , a great player, who helped him transition to the
steel guitar and became Bob's mentor , and who advised
him on the purchase of his first steel guitar, a BMI.

Since that time , Bob has owned Zum , Mullen, and like
a lot of you players , Bob settled on a push pull Emoons,
black of course. It would be interesting sometime for
all the players to show up with their black Emmons . I
know Wayne Morton has one , I think Terry Canida , I know
Paul King....and I'm encouraged to know Darren Shifflet
has brought back the Emmons Guitar Company and is getting
rave reviews on the new guitar . They come in black.

Getting back to Bob, one time he road to the Siloam
Springs show with Jerry Roller . The President of the
club was Ray Qualls and he asked Jerry "who is with you"
and he said that's Bobby Garrett...Ray said "I've heard
a lot about you and would love to meet you". Ray of course
was thinking of Rose City Charms Bobby Garrett. Jerry had
a good laugh about that. Bob spent 20+ years in country
music radio in Ft Smith Ar., both as a D J and salesman.
As such , he also Emceed the concerts sponsored by the
station . He's a fine vocalist and veteran steel player.

Who else can say they played bass for Johnny Cash...Bob
can and did , at a show in Fayetteville. Bob is a fine
Christian and pastored a Baptist church in Hartford Ar
for several years. Plan on hearing Bob at the OSGA show
June 24 & 25 in Jenks Ok

b0b notes: Bob Garrett will be performing at the OSGA show in Jenk, OK, on June 24, 2022.
