Clovis Richards interview

Post by Larry King »

As promised , this morning begins a series of interviews
with members of the OSGA club. I struggled with the choice
of who to begin with and finally settled on C D Richards,
{Clovis as most of us know him}. So Clovis , we honor you
this morning as the longest standing member of the OSGA.

Clovis' story at early in his twenties when he bought his
first pedal steel and tried to figure out how to tune the
darn thing.....raise your hand if you can relate. In time
he met John Buffington and later Terry Day , both of whom
are awesome players, and they offered him encouragement and
probably some one on one hints and instruction. At this point
I must pay homage and kudos to Mr Buffington myself for it was
he who introduced me into this crazy world of steel guitars.
Without that connection , I wouldn't know an of you who may be
reading this now .

Highlights of Clovis' career include diner with Mr & Mrs Ron
Elliot and Mr & Mrs Buddy Emmons...how many have that on their
resume. He was part of a family show called Skiatook Opry
for some time along with his brother Uncle B J. The one thing
that stands out in my mind is his commitment to God and family
and the OSGA . I salute Clovis and his supportive wife Vivian
who also serves "behind the scenes" along with the other
lady's who help to make these Conventions a success . Once again
we honor Clovis and Vivian Richards

b0b notes: Clovis Richards will be performing at the OSGA show in Jenk, OK, on June 25, 2022.

Thanks Lary, I have been very blessed to have made so many great friends through the years by being a small part of the Steel Guitar world. My only regret is that I didn't become a much better player. No one enjoys listing to and attempting to play pedal steel more than me. I feel fortunate to have a very supportive wife that never complains about my music.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the upcoming OSGA show. June 24th & 25th

I met and became friends with Clovis many years ago when I was playing the Tulsa show. He's one of the finest individuals to be found in the steel guitar world.
Congratulations Clovis! Larry could not have picked better for his first interview.

I can't add anything to the above mentioned except, I have "adopted" the Richards Family over 49+ years ago. What's even better we are also close by neighbors. Doesn't get any better than that!
