Hey Gene, think about getting a new Melbert, Bob Allen will build you a custom 8-string in the $500 range, he also does 10 string, multi necks, etc. I have two of his now (8 string and 10 string) and I think they're the right combo of features, quality and price. Gene, You might have better response if you stated your budget and the number of strings and scale length you are looking for. Lap Steels are all over the map on price, strings, etc.
