Very sad news, indeed. Randy was an immaculate guitarist and a great vocalist. And a totally nice guy. Condolences to his family.
My rig: Infinity and Telonics.
Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg?

I remember a tune that got good air play when I lived in SoCal called "My Conscience feels guilty and sometimes I talk in my sleep".... A beautiful vocal by Randy. I also have that old Frenchie Burke LP with Big Mamou on it. My favorite cut on it is Orange Blossom Special where Randy plays a blazing hot solo........JH in Va.
Don't matter who's in Austin (or anywhere else) Ralph Mooney is still the king!!!

Randy was an incredible guitarist and a great singer. In a better world, he would have been a star.

Based on his stellar performance dueling with Robbie Springfield behind Frenchie Burke, I bought his aptly named debut album "My first album" back in my early teens – and was not disappointed. Not only a great guitarist, but a really good singer too. "Play that song again about the loser" is on the playlist in my car, and will stay there.
Sometimes what you don't play is what matters. Musicians like Randy, who are true virtuosos and masters of speed but don't feel the need to show it all the time, are a rare breed. James Burton, Lloyd Green and the late, great drummer Kenny Malone come to mind...

The Randy Corner LP to look for "Fiddlin' Frenchie Burke And The Outlaws" 20th Century Fox T-479, released November 1975. This was a very influential guitar and steel guitar record with Randy Corner and Robbie Springfield coming on with some seriously hot twin and part playing. Like "Brisbane Bop" or anything by Bob Wills or Buddy Emmons, this is happy, upbeat music essential for your library. In an interview, Albert Lee said he had this LP in England and would woodshed along with it.
This only happens in Texas.
Here are a few examples - the whole LP is like this:
