Topic: Need help identifying this sho-Bud |

I don’t know as much about sho-buds as some folks but I have one I need info on and then if it’s worth fixing up. I’m thinking a total rebuild, metal parts shined up and all and any repairs needed. Also any recommendations or upgrades

Early LDG. Ricky can confirm if it's first year (I think it's late '74) but either way there's likely no Sho-bud more worth putting some money into. I'd offer to help but you're on the other side of the state from me. You are however pretty close to Billy Knowles at steel guitars east in Kenansville. He's a well known Emmons guy but may work on a Bud. As Jim mentioned, Ricky is our resident expert.

Yes that is indeed a serial # 4166 LDG; made four months after Lloyd Green's was made in May '73. So this is September 1973; certainly has faded somewhat; which is normal unless you keep it covered all the time..ha. It doesn't have the green tint added to the white spray texture underneath which was done mainly on the first year of LDG...then they went to nylon tuning then mechanical changes and underneath changed after first year. This one was probably made by musician helping out as side job at that time and made if for himself as payment and therefore he did not put the green tint in the spray texture.> simple as that..ha.
I already PM Ben on the different levels of restoration and therefore the worth goes up depending on how much is done. But all original parts are there....just look a little rode hard mechanically.
But it is the best sounding and playing Sho-bud made; if you ask me...that's why I recorded mine on over 100 CD's 40 commercials and almost all Richard Linklater movie soundtracks in the last 15 years...and there's only one reason I used my LDG...Period.

Thanks for the quick response. This isn’t my steel. It’s for a friend of mine but it letting me play it in his band.
One question comes to mind, if this is single/single changer, can handle the 4th Franklin pedal change that I’d like to put on it |

Yes; with barrel tuning, you can raise and or lower a string as many times you want; as long as there a barrel on that rod behind how ever amount of times you want to pull it.
But there are some "amount of room" and "spring tension" probs; to do some more modern changes; but I have SECRETS in fixing that and getting it all to work and stay in tune better than modern steel guitars...ah...ha.
