| My first steel guitar...a million years ago was a Sho-Bud Maverick that I bought at Manny's in NYC,It did nothave a roller nut,I was wondering if all of them came like that,I was poping G#'s every five minutes not to mention getting cuts on my hands...A very painfull guitar,and yet somehow I stuck with it. |

I have an early Maverick. It also does not have a roller nut. However, the later models did have the rollers. The older ones could be converted.

I had one of those also, I used to use horn oil on all the strings at the nut, every time I played, seemed to help with the string breaking. The rollers were sure the way to go, but I paid next to nothing for that guitar and had a zillion dollars worth of fun with it!

| I had one of the early ones without rollers. When I replaced the keyhead with one with rollers, the tone changed drastically. It seemed like it had more ring and sustain. I also used oil on the old keyhead and didn't notice any less string breakage with the rollers. The main problem without the rollers was a scratchy sound as the wound strings were pulled across the nut. |

My first steel was a blonde lacquer Sho-Bud maverick I bought in Manny's in NYC. Loved the steel. I kind of wish I still had it.

| Mine is an early model, and it didn't have rollers when I bought it. Andy DePaule slotted the headstock for me and added a roller nut. |

Mine was one of the blonde models without rollers,
and it's the only thing I've never regretted selling..... |
