Goodrich 6122 volume pedal with Sarno Black Box

Hi Forumites,

I have an old Goodrich 6122 volume pedal which has an active circuit run off a 9v battery, which as I recall changes pickup impedance as you turn its knob. Adjusting it certainly alters the tone.
Does anyone know if that is correct and/or can remind me how it works?

I'm wondering, if it does in fact change impedance, if it is similar to the Sarno Black Box's functionality, and if yes, if that would make using a Black Box with that volume pedal redundant?

The pedal works great, I've used it forever.
