Let me first say that I have a new appreciation for all the Sho~Bud steel players of the '60s! You guys must have been in shape. I decided to gig the Baldwin tonight, and thought those of you who participated in the recent thread about this "non-Crossover" would be interested in seeing a few visuals. It is a very different beast to handle, in every way. It is no "flip it in the case and go" guitar. It sounded like thunder with a band, doing classic country all night, and held its tune pretty good with a little help from Mr. Peterson from time to time.
Playing this steel tonight was a little like stepping back into the past. I feel that I caught a glimpse of what it must have been like for a steel player in the 60's, having to haul a heavy beast like this to the gig and go through the long-winded set-up ritual. Hats off to all of you. Bobbe said he used to run through airports with one like this......now I can really appreciate that scenario.
Patiently waiting to be played:
Being played:
Anybody else still pack their hardware on a stretcher?
You have to loosen screws with an allen wrench to fold up the levers.
It's 90 pounds in the case, and worth every pound in my opinion. I had a great gig playing this steel tonight. It made every note enjoyable. |

Thanks, guys. It has a wonderful, deep sound that made it a blast to play. I could've played for hours more. |
