I have one of the few Dr Z Surgical Steel amps; head and Eminence EPS-15C 15" speaker cab.
I love the full low end, but after hearing the Quilter amp with the TT speaker, I'm wondering if it's worth swapping in one in.
Anyone have an idea of how the TT 15 compares to an Eminence 15"? _________________ 1979 MSA U12 Pedal Steel

The highs on a tt15 are a little less shrill and the speaker has an overall midrange tonality. I have had both, stiil have the tt15, but have gone back to using a Telonics 12, which seems to me to be a more even sounding speaker. |

I too started with the EPS-15C, but wasn't all that thrilled with it as there was some weirdness and unevenness in it's tonality. So I ordered a TT15, and after ordering compared the schematics of both speakers side by side, and found by that there wasn't a big difference. From the schematics I thought, "Oh Boy, maybe I spent the money on the TT15 for nothing". Well after swapping out the EPS for the TT I was pleasantly surprised as the weirdness in the EPS was gone and replaced with a smooth, balanced tonality from the TT15. I've had a total of 2-TT15's and 3-TT12's and very happy them. To my ear there's a definite improvement with the TT over the EPS. _________________ Dale Rottacker, Steelinatune™

Thanks for all the info, gents.
I wouldn't spring for a new speaker if I didn't think I could pass a blindfold test, but the TT 15 sounds like it's worth obtaining. _________________ 1979 MSA U12 Pedal Steel

I have a Surgical Steel. I have no experience with the speakers in question, but I can tell you it sounds incredible with the 15” Paul Franklin speaker. I know these are lighter in weight, but based on tone alone, I have no desire to stop using it. |
