I have a friend who is thinking about selling his Gibson lap steel that he bought about 45 years ago. He thinks it's from the 30s or 40s and I'm guessing it may be an EH-150 but I haven't seen that fretboard on the examples I've googled up (they all have dots on their frets). Maybe this is a replacement fretboard?

In any case, would one (or more) of you fine people kindly confirm the model #, vintage (see serial #) and whether the fretboard (as well as bridge, etc) all seem to be original? Finally, what is a fair price range for him to sell within? (BTW, he does not have the original case for it.)

Thanks all!
Jim

The 'E' prefix on the batch number would indicate 1941. If the fretboard is metal, it's quite likely original. I've had a couple 1941 EH-125s with the same fretboard designs; they both were metal. The bridge looks to be correct for that era. Hard to say about the tuners, since they've gone missing in that photo. Looks like a late EH-150 to me.

Thanks, Jack. Any thoughts about current value?

Hey Jim,

Yes, an EH-150. I have a 7-string version of that same guitar and I think I determined that it was a '41. Same fretboard so I'm sure your friend's is original but where did his tuners go? I replaced mine with some nice Grovers from Stewmac. I can look up the part if you need it. I got my guitar off ebay about two years ago for a little under $700 w/case but I think they typically bring a little more. Possibly a larger market for a six string.

Sorry, Jim. Not a clue as to value. Bill's estimate seems reasonable to me. My pocketbook necessitates the purchasing of basketcases, and slowly bringing 'em back to life as time and finances permit. That one is far too nice to be realistically obtainable for me.

That's a great looking 7-string you have there, Bill.
