Need help putting 5 and 10 lowers on pedal 1!!!

I tried to move the changes from LKV to pedal 1 (B-Bb lowers on strings 5 and 10) and no matter what I do in terms of changer hole/bell crank/pedal height combos, the only setting that works results in a pedal with lots of slack and a short, hard pull at the end. Is it too small a change over too long a distance to get a smooth pull? This is similar to a Travis toy e9 copedent but all his pedals are further to the right. The problem is actually string 5. I can get smooth pull from string 10.

Try the bellcrank hole closest to the cross shaft.

That does seem to be the best option. Still loads of pedal slack, but the pull is somewhat smoother

I did it on my Mullen G2. Used the same hole positions as my LKV, which is where that lower was previously.

Did you run the rods close to the cross shaft?

If you have to much pedal slack, you should adjust the pedal stop. There are 2 different systems for that, depending on your guitar.

Yes, what I mean to say is there is so much slack that after adjust the pedal, itis down very low with not much pull left

Hi Chris.
There are a number of variables used in adding pedals or knee levers. The hole (closer or farther from the shaft) is one variable. Another is how much free play (what starts/ends pedal movement) the pedal has. It sounds like yours has too much movement/free play which (depending on how it is built) usually has screw adjustment to adjust the free play range, and would limit your excess slack. So you juggle between which hole you use/how much free play, to get your desired result. Luck on your install......Pat

When a single changer is changing multiple strings, you also need to consider the timing across strings.

If a changer gets harder to press at some point, it could be because one string is activated later than another string.

Check the core diameter of the 10th string. If the 10th string core diameter is larger than the 5th B plain string. Back off the tuner on the 10th string lower.

Then go to the 5th string. Adjust the pedal stop till the pedal stops at a comfortable location. Check 5th string open tune to B. Then Shove the pedal down and tune the 5th string to Bb. (IF IT Will NOT TUNE, ADJUST THE PEDAL STOP) Start over. Once you get the 5th string to tune open B and the pedal down tune to Bb properly set.

Then go to the 10th string tune open to B, Then shove the pedal down and tune the lower to Bb. Now check the 10th string bell crank. If the 5th string moves faster, Move the pull rod 1 hole at a time till up or down till the 2 pulls start at same time and stop at same time, As close as possible.
