What convention is the best for gear and workshops?

Post by Mick OGrady »

I am interested in going to steel guitar conventions for workshops but also to try out gear. What convention presents the most complete variety of pedal steel builders and models as well as related equipment? Are there conventions where it is possible to rent guitars to use in workshops? I see people with their guitars in workshops on some You Tube Videos, but the idea of bringing one on a plane does not sound simple.

Without a doubt, the Texas Steel Guitar Jamboree (next month) is the place to be.
Most all of the steel vendors, workshops, clinics and Music, music, music.
Plus you can talk to all the players.

As far as renting a steel, I don't know. But there are so many steel guitars at the show, new and old, that I feel sure someone would loan you a steel.

And most workshops, you don't need a steel. They send you home with plenty of literature and stuff.
AUTHORIZED George L's, Goodrich, Telonics and Peavey Dealer: I have 2 steels and several amps. My current rig of choice is 1993 Emmons LeGrande w/ 108 pups (Jack Strayhorn built for me), Goodrich OMNI Volume Pedal, George L's cables, Goodrich Baby Bloomer and Peavey Nashville 112. Can't get much sweeter.

The Texas Steel Guitar Association has the annual show in March. The show has seminars, all kind of products and yes manufactures as well. It is also a great show for music and fellowship.

Bill Ferguson speaks the truth. The TSGA Jamboree is definitely "it."

I understand that the hotel for our show, the Sheraton DFW Airport Hotel, is sold out. As it is every year. But there are several hotels surrounding the venue. Go to the TSGA website www.texassteelguitar.org, for more info. Be sure to state that you're coming for the TSGA Jamboree, I believe they offer discounted rates for our show.
My rig: Infinity and Telonics.

Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg?
