Hello, This is my first post on this forum. I was wondering if anyone could offer any advice on converting my Steinberger 'headless' guitar into a lap steel. I have bought a Grover GP1103 Perfect Guitar Nut. The Grover nut is wider than the top fret area of the neck.
I have raised the action as high as it can go but the strings are not high enough. I was wondering if there is anything more I can do so the guitar can be played as a lap steel?
Thanks for your time.

The slight additional width of the Grover nut may be a feature, not a flaw. Widening the string spacing at the nut will likely make it easier to play with a bar, not harder.
You could also fabricate a taller nut. While it would look more tailor-made, I doubt that it would sound any better and you'd still have the narrower string spacing.

I think the justanut wouldn't sit over fret zero it would get pushed towards fret 1: https://www.zzounds.com/item--STNGTPRO
I have heard of people using packs of post it notes or cigarette papers or stuff like that under the strings at the nut to get extra clearance to play slide.
